Reports say militants wearing civilian clothes burst into the Intercontinental while guests were having dinner. At least one militant blew himself up and several others took positions on the roof, after a shootout with police. The four hour standoff was ended by an airstrike from a NATO helicopter. Two Tuol Sleng prison survivors lead a small prayer ceremony to remember the 1.7 million people killed during the Khmer Rouge regime. It was held two days before a UN-backed court puts four of its senior leaders on trial.

Two survivors of the Khmer Rouge regime led a prayer ceremony on Saturday to remember those who died during that brutal regime.

This came two days before four senior Khmer Rouge leaders were to stand trial.

Both Tuol Sleng prison survivors, Bou Meng and Chum Mei, walked up steps to the Killing Fields monument where they offered prayers and promised justice for the regime victims.

They are 79-year-old Kieu Samphan, the former head of state of what was known at the time as Democratic Kampuchea; 84-year-old Nuon Chea, the regime’s former Number Two; 85-year-old Ieng Sary who was the Minister for Foreign Affairs, while his wife, 79-year-old Ieng Tearit, took charge of social affairs in the country.
