Syria under pressure as Arab deadline expires

Euronews | Nov 25, 2011 | 448 views

As its crackdown on protesters continues, Syria has until the end of the day to sign an Arab deal letting monitors into the country or it could incur sanctions.

The Arab League deadline has officially expired but a source said the door would be left open to Damascus for a few extra hours.

The day after dozens were reported killed, amid an overall death toll of 3,500 according to the UN, the latest amateur footage appears to show no let-up in the onslaught

New Zealand government eyes landslide as polls close

Euronews | Nov 26, 2011 | 99 views

New Zealand’s prime minister looks to be heading back into government with a landslide win after voting closed in the country’s general election.

Exit polls are not allowed but John Key’s centre-right National Party could get an historic outright majority if surveys before the ballot are mirrored in the vote.

All of which bodes badly for Labour leader Phil Goff, hopeful to the last that his party would stage a late recovery.

Story of Herod and Jesus an impossible tale tells Archeological find.Temple not built by Herod in his lifetime.

Construction Completed After Herod’s Death

From: NTDTV | Nov 24, 2011 | 36 views

“The man usually credited with building the compound known to Jews as the Temple Mount and to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary is Herod, a Jewish ruler who died in 4 B.C. Herod’s monumental compound replaced and expanded a much older Jewish temple complex on the same site.

But archaeologists with the Israel Antiquities Authority now say diggers have found coins underneath the massive foundation stones of the compound’s Western Wall that were stamped by a Roman proconsul 20 years after Herod’s death.

This doesnt upset Jewish Faith and its wailing Wall since its the Temple’s last standing structure that they bewail.

It matters little if Herod completed it or some other or if the Wall itself was built later.

What is missed by anti-semites is the Hirod’s dating that makes complete nonesense of Hirod figuring in Jesus timeline and narrative.

So to the already known discrepancies of impossible dates that never matched Jesus story in New Testament bible with Roman-Jewish history or archeology comes this Finding of coins underneath the Temple’s western wall supposed by it to have been built by Herod!

What this means is that those coins minted 20 years later- confounds and blows as a Myth the whole Jesus timeline and story as incompatible with History and archeology.

In its story of ‘Jesus’-he was betrayed by for 6 pieces of silver.

Looks like the lies took just took 2 coins to be betrayed.

Come to think of generations hounded out based on such fickle stories built without history as killers of the Saviour..

In The Old City of Jerusalem an important archaeological discovery has been made. Archaeologists are now convinced that King Herod did not finish constructing the Temple Mount in his own lifetime. Our correspondent has more.

The common belief that the Roman king Herod built all of the Temple Mount is about to change.

On Wednesday, the Israeli Antiquities Authority held a news conference announcing that ancient artefacts, discovered under the Western Wall of the Temple Mount, show that construction of The Temple was not completed during King Herod’s lifetime.

The artefacts include coins dated to 16 in the Common Era, while King Herod is believed to have died 20 years earlier.

A new exhibition called “Beyond Planet Earth” gets underway at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. The Expo showcases ideas on the future of space exploration. Our correspondents bring you the full story.

Returning to the moon, exploring asteroids, voyaging to mars, reaching the outer solar system and even beyond. These are issues presented by The American Museum of Natural history in New York, in it’s new expo “Beyond Planet Earth” that questions what is the future of space exploration.

[Jackson Tao, College student]:
“I have no idea”.

Dr. Michael Shara is curator in the Department of Astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural history. He shares some of his ideas of what mankind will find out there in near future.

[Michael Shara, Curator, Department of Astrophysics]:
“I believe that in the coming 5, 10, 20 years we will send humans back to the moon. I’m certain that we will have commercial space exploration…We will certainly explore asteroids and learn how to nudge them, how to deflect them so that they wouldn’t run into earth… And I’m certain we will go Europa, look underneath it’s ice to see if there is life in it’s salty oceans. Finally, hundreds of years from now, I’m certain that we will leave this solar system and move outwards to the stars.”

And what about colonizing other planets and booking a flight to Mars? Some people on the streets of New York city already consider that mankind can soon expand it’s territory in to the solar system.

[Jackson Tao, College Student]:
“You might find that a planet may be suitable for life”

[Christiano Moura, Tourist]:
“In a few years people will be able to see other planets, to go there and to see how they are like”

And their guesses seem to be right.

[Michael Shara, Curator, Department of Astrophysics]:
“…we are almost certainly going to start terraforming Mars. Changing it into an Earthlike world. There’s going to be a real debate at that point and I strongly suspect that the people that are going to win that debate are the people who want to terraform Mars, turn it into an Earthlike world.”

The Beyond Planet Earth Expo opens on Saturday November 19th, presenting the past and present of space travel and our next steps in our solar system and beyond.

euronews science: Life in the Dead Sea

Published on Nov 24, 2011 by Euronews

The deepest point on the surface of Earth is the Dead Sea in Israel. Now a joint Israeli-German team of scientists has found several freshwater spring systems on the floor of the Dead Sea.

Their presence has been suspected for decades as concentric ripples on the surface of the water are visible near the shore, but it is only now been confirmed by divers.

30 metres under the surface, equipped with underwater cameras, the divers collected water samples from cracks in the sea floor and discovered cunknown micro-organisms.

Lanka Torturing Tamil Detainees- Channel 4

The War is Over? Human Rights groups have been charging Lankan regime as sadistic behind a facade of its smiles

Channel 4 has once again comeup with a report that Tamils are increasingly charged detained and tortured without trial on unsubstantiated and flimpsy grounds of ‘association with the Tamil Tigers’.

A U.K. group quotes how even women are not spared and atleast someone in a family is held without charges.

Typical of such fascist regimes like at South America- many detainees’ families have complained that scores of such victims have simply gone ‘Disappearing’.

Behind the smiles hides a Sadistic Regime says the Channel anchor and how Sri Lanka is to face an imminent scrutiny by Human Rights Organisations with United Nations Committee.

Some 12 Human Rights groups woulld place their Fornesic documents in its study about 60 specific cases of torture that it tells still goes on years after the end of a Civil War which again involved a War Crimes tragedy yet to be fully investigated and a brutal regime that could be behind a facade of apparant Reconcilation and Rebuilding efforts.

News.com Australia reports –

DETAINEES in Sri Lanka are routinely tortured, but the government is not credibly investigating the allegations, Amnesty International says.
Sri Lanka has legislation against torture, but no effective way to implement it, Yolanda Foster, the rights group’s Sri Lanka expert, said today.
Amnesty International issued a report on Sri Lanka ahead of a review by the UN Committee Against Torture tomorrow.
“There is no longer an independently functioning unit investigating torture allegations levelled against the security forces, which calls into question Sri Lanka’s commitment to ending this abhorrent practice,” Ms Foster said.

The rights group accuses police, military personnel, paramilitary forces and prison guards of routinely beating and torturing detainees. It said that during the first 14 years of the anti-torture legislation, only three prosecutions were reportedly made under the police Special Investigation Unit, which has since been sidelined.

Amnesty International said that in 2008, the government claimed 42 indictments against 90 people stemming from torture investigations in the prior four years. But the group said most of those cases never went to trial.

The group said detainees have been held arbitrarily for prolonged periods, sometimes years, without charge and that most of them are eventually released for lack of evidence. It said those tortured include criminal suspects and people with alleged links with the now defeated separatist Tamil Tiger rebels.

A number of suspects have died while in police custody in the last few months. Last month, people attacked and seriously damaged a police station after a youth died while in custody.

Care 2 Human Rights reports-

Freedom from Torture has used forensic methods to document evidence of torture through the production of medico-legal reports (MLRs) for use in the context of asylum claims by torture survivors who have fled to the UK.

Keith Best, Freedom from Torture’s Chief Executive, said:

“As well as recording serious psychological impact in virtually all of the individuals whose cases are sampled in this report, the evidence also reveals high levels of visible scarring which strongly suggests a deliberate policy of ‘branding’ and an environment where perpetrators act with impunity. The experiences documented in the report of signed confessions forced through torture, fingerprinting and the deliberate infliction of visible injuries, mean that the risk of future detention and torture for survivors on return to Sri Lanka remains high, especially given the fact that in every single one of these 35 cases release from detention was resultant on the payment of a bribe. Fourteen had reported torture on their return from periods of time spent abroad.”

The 35 individuals whose MLRs were reviewed in Freedom from Torture’s study were detained in a range of facilities around Sri Lanka and all report being targeted due to an actual or perceived association with the LTTE, often through family members, or an opposition political party. It has been widely reported that the LTTE forcibly recruited Tamils into membership and other support roles during the civil war, suggesting that a very large proportion of the Tamil population is at risk of being targeted on this basis.

A Russian spacecraft bound for one of Mars’ moons has gone off course after reaching Earth orbit, the Russian space agency has said.

The unmanned Phobos-Grunt probe was launched successfully on board a Zenit-II rocket, but two engines failed to fire once it reached orbit, resulting in the craft going off course.

Russian authorities say they remain in contact with the craft and have three days to return it to its course before its batteries run out.

Al Jazeera’s Neave Barker reports from Moscow, the Russian capital.
