The Vatican has rejected accusations from Ireland that it had tried to cover up child sex abuse by its priests.

In July the Irish parliament passed a motion accusing Rome of “undermining child protection frameworks”.

The Vatican says it was “sorry and ashamed” for the abuse but that accusations of interference in Irish law were “unfounded”….
